WEEK #9

Last week Philip and me went exploring a demolished area near by "Wedding Town" bus stop.
Noting glamour there.

This area was really peaceful actually, it was like going out of the vrooming Seoul. This devastated landscape seems to be taken from an apocalyptic science fiction movie although it was very real.

In my opinion it looked more real than a lot of other features of Seoul. This shows hidden aspects of fast modern development and gentrification. We could easily spots trace of recent life and anterior human interactions. As from an Archaeologist view we tried to imagine how was the life like here, few months ago. When I see this, I see Dehumanization.

To connect with my project, we could easily integrate these symbols of decivilization into an AR app. 

Moreover, if I come back there in few months I could easily do totally different scans from the same point of view. Then, as I David recommend me, it could be interesting to see 2 layers of time superimposing. This would translate time into depth.

WEEK #6

For this week I quickly tried to setup an AR app using Unity and one of the object I 3D scanned. 

My Unity version is too old, I need to update it. Also my phone is not compatible with AR Core (Google AR Service) but I'll find a way to borrow a phone to try that out.

I recommend it, it's really well detailed even thought it might be a little bit outdated. 

Next week I want to get it work. 

WEEK #5

Project Idea

The idea is to 3D scan a lot of different “things” that for me caracterize Seoul. I don’t want to make a beautiful picture of a city. I want to scan objects and environment showing (over)consumerism. Trashes a lot of trashes, Lotte appartement towers, construction work, demolished buildings, recycling/trash collecting companies, soju, Samsung air conditioners, CCTV, cables, etc. After collecting all of these samples, I want to use them to create a 3D environment in which we can wander. I also want to create myself or collaborate with a local music producer to make a soundtrack using computer generated voice. This voice would tell people’s testimony about Korea’s modern social pressure. For example : “When I was a kid I had to go to study from 8AM to 1AM”, “My parents offered me plastic surgery when I got accepted to university”, “I’m 82 years old and I collect people’s trash to stay alive”, etc.
